Work

The job market is not Jacksonville. Plan for that.

Healthcare, schools, hotels, grocery, trades, city hall — and a laptop if the fiber shows up. Addresses for CareerSource, Daytona State, and Flagler Technical College.

The payment and the wage are different conversations.

Flagler’s payroll is hospitals, classrooms, rooms with a view, grocery aisles, and lawns. Tourism is still a sector. Healthcare passed it as the top private industry. If someone in the house needs a metro career every Tuesday, do the drive once at 5 p.m. before you waive anything.

Work here

Healthcare, schools, hotels, grocery, construction, landscaping, city and county. AdventHealth and Flagler Schools are the large private and public benches. This is not a Fortune-500 campus town.

Commute

St. Augustine and Daytona are the realistic weekday. Jacksonville is 75–90 minutes if I-95 cooperates. Orlando every day is a different life than the listing photos.

Laptop

A meaningful share of the labor force already works from home. Fiber is street-specific. Order internet two weeks out. The original ITT grid was not designed for everyone’s Zoom call at 9 a.m.

The weekday

Commute math from Town Center

10–25 min

Town Center / parkway

The local job. Still a car. 5 p.m. on Palm Coast Parkway is real.

~30–40 min

Daytona Beach

Hospitals, DSC main campus, the beachside hospitality bench, I-95 south.

~35–45 min

St. Augustine

North on US-1 or I-95. Tourism and services. Doable weekday.

75–90 min

Jacksonville

The metro career. Fine a few days a week. Brutal five days if I-95 is in a mood.

too far

Orlando

A big-trip airport and a theme-park weekend. Not a commute from a B street.

Flagler Technical College

5400 E. Highway 100

What is coming

A cable is not a campus

Google and DC Blox are building a subsea cable landing in Town Center — Florida’s first direct Europe link in a generation, aimed at 2027. That is infrastructure. It is not a promise that your neighbor will hire software engineers next quarter. Treat press releases as press releases.

Flagler sits in Florida’s High-Tech Corridor on a map. On the ground, the hiring you can walk into is still AdventHealth, the district, the resorts, and the trades. Remote work is how a lot of newcomers actually make the mortgage.

The fork

Who this works for

Come if the job is a hospital, a classroom, a trade, a hotel, a laptop, or a few days in Daytona or St. Augustine. Keep looking if the household needs downtown Jacksonville five mornings a week and hates I-95.
